Debian deserves some extra attention. The latest release is being distributed and I have no doubt that it will be installed on quite a few machines over the coming days and weeks. Personally I want to try it on the iMac Indigo and on a virtual machine under VMware. The netinstal images were a breeze to download and that was enough for now. I did not feel like downloading three DVD images or 22 CD images at the moment.

We all know about the rampant spam email problem. Nearly all of the potential solutions offered for it are based on the idea of the mail server receiving messages, classifying them as either spam or legitimate, and then processing further (deleting or forwarding messages) as appropriate. The problem with this strategy is that you end up using extra resources on the mail server. Here's a way to get the same result while minimizing resource usage by preventing the spam from reaching the mail server.

After 21 months of development Debian has released version 4.0 codenamed Etch to the public on April, 8th 2007. In Debian time 21 months is downright snippy, which is a good thing. Trust me on that. Their last (in)famous release Debian 3.1 "Sarge" took a near vista-esque length of time for release (3+ years), so here’s hoping the colorful Debian gang can keep up to their more reasonable year and a half release cycle.
