HowtoForge :: Configuring Tomcat5 and Apache2 with Virtual Hosts using mod_jk
Written by bibe
Tuesday, 07 March 2006
This tutorial explains how I was able to setup a web server in order to support Java Server Pages (JSP) and Servlets using virtually hosted websites...
The ultimate goal is to provide instructions on how to incorporate JSP/Servlet support on the ISPConfig web hosting software. I felt it was necessary to provide this first segment separately for those that do not wish to use the ISPConfig web hosting control panel. Read more on HowtoForge

The R Zone :: Tuning a MySQL server in 5 minutes
Written by bibe
Monday, 06 March 2006
Continuing with the Server management series, this time we’ll learn how to tune a MySQL server to handle high server loads. Evidently, this piece assumes that you’re using MySQL to serve a dynamic site. If this is not the case, you’ll still find this article useful, but you’ll have to derive your own interpretations out of it. Read more on The R Zone

You may know how to use SQL to extract data from a table in a MySQL database, and how to run a query that combines data from more than one table. But what about multiple databases? Or even multiple databases on multiple servers? Read more on Linux.com

KernelTrap.org :: Linux: IPW3945, Debating the Binary Daemon
Written by bibe
Saturday, 04 March 2006
The announcement of a new project to support Intel's PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection mini-PCI express adapter (IPW3945) was met with mixed reactions. The project includes a binary-only daemon to enforce regulatory limits for the radio transmitter on the wireless device, communicating to the kernel driver through a sysfs interface. Linux Forums :: Using mutt with ssmtp, getmail and maildrop
Written by bibe
Thursday, 02 March 2006
Despite the plethora of email clients available nowadays, the text based mutt is still the choice of many gurus. It follows the Unix philosophy of doing one thing well rather than trying to do many things. Although there is limited POP3 functionality, and muttng even has the ability to use builtin SMTP, in general, experts use mutt to read the mail and other programs to send, receive and filter. Despite this, mutt can do a great many things. People used to graphical email clients will be surprised at its abilities. Read more on Linux Forums

Linux Forums :: The Screen Program
Written by bibe
Thursday, 02 March 2006
Sometimes, you discover a particular program by chance. You have a problem, post on a mailing list or forum and someone suggests using program foo or program bar. Perhaps it's something that someone else is advised to use, you read about it on your favorite mailing list and think, "Gee, that sounds interesting. Let me try it." After you use it, you wonder how anyone can live without it and post to your favorite mailing list or forum, agog with the wonders of your new discovery. Read more on Linux Forums

HowtoForge :: Running Apache2 With PHP5 And PHP4 At The Same Time
Written by Alberto Federico Turelli
Tuesday, 28 February 2006
This tutorial shows how to install and configure Apache2 with PHP5 and PHP4 enabled at the same time. Because it is not possible to run both PHP5 and PHP4 as Apache modules, we must run one of them as CGI, the other one as Apache module. In this document I will use PHP5 as Apache module and PHP4 as CGI, and I will describe the setup for the Linux distributions Debian Sarge (3.1) and Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger). Linux Journal :: Making apt Work for You: A Book Excerpt
Written by Alberto Federico Turelli
Tuesday, 28 February 2006
One of the popular Linux patch management systems is based on the Advanced Package Tool, known as apt. While it was developed for Debian Linux, it is the standard patch management tool for a number of Debian and Red Hat-based distributions, including Knoppix, Xandros, and even the Lineox rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. But if you prefer apt, the associated tools can be installed on most Linux distributions. Read more on Linux Journal, and refer to the book's web site for further information
